Mean, Median, Mode and Range

WALT: identify the Mean, Median, Mode and Range to describe data

in this activity we did the Mean Median Mode and Range. I now know how to find the average in the data set and also the Mode Median and Range in the data set.
Mean - Average
Median - The middle number
Mode - Most common number
Range - Distance between the smallest number and the largest number

Statistics M.M.M - Mean Median Mode

Statistics                                                           Name: Myztique

WALT- Identify the mean, median and mode within a collection of data

Activity One
Answer the questions in a different colour

The definition of the mean in a statistical investigation is commonly referred to as the average. It is the total of all the data divided by the amount of data shown.
For example: if we have this range of data 3,5,7,1,2,3,6,8

3+5+7+1+2+3+6+5  = 32  = 4
             8                      8

  1. Find the mean in this set of numbers
3,7,8,4,2,6,5,4,3,9 = 5.1
  1. Find the mean in the set of numbers
4,12,5,6,11,9,5 = 7.3
  1. Find the mean in this tally chart
Pets owned by students
Number of students

Cats
IIIII IIIII II

            10,12,4,2 = 12
  1. Find the mean in this set of numbers
24,12,16,18 = 17.5
  1. Find the mean in this set of numbers
5,9,12,4,10,7 = 7.5
  1. CHALLENGE QUESTION: Find the mean within this data, use the frequency table to help you
1,5,5,2,1,2,5,5,5,5,1,2,1,5,5 = 3.5

Activity Two
Answer the questions in a different colour

The definition of the median is the middle number within a set of numbers that have been put in order from size (biggest to smallest or smallest to biggest)
For example: 2,6,4,1,9 = 1,2,4,6,9 and the middle number is 4.
BUT say if there is more than one middle number… the median is found by taking the number midway between the middle pair of numbers:
3,6,1,4,9,2 = 1,2,3,4,6,9 → 3 + 4 = 3.5
                                             2

Find the median in these sets of numbers

  1. 10,14,17,12,19,11,16 = 14

  1. 34,42,37,31,40  = 37

  1. 101, 167,138,124,198,149 = 143.5

  1. 54, 58,52,57,53,60 = 52 + 57 = 55.5

  1. 1001, 1094, 1023, 1065, 1038, 1027, 1042 = 1038

  1. Find the median within this tally chart

Persuasive writing - what is it?

WALT: plan out a persuasive piece of writing.
Today for our writing we had to write what we THINK, FEEL, BELIEVE in our activity table our teacher had plan for us.

Now thats thinking

Now that’s thinking Diary

Name: Myztique, Seini, Cameo
Chosen Idea: Lockers

Each week write down what your group achieved.
  • Explain what you contributed towards that week's achievements.
  • Note any problems you or your group are experiencing.
  • What did you learn this week?

Need (Project)
Our Project is to make bag hooks for classrooms in the school who are in need of them. During our research we have learnt that only team 4 and 5 are the only groups that need bag hooks. In team 5 we have most of the student bags on the ground instead of on the bag hooks that we have in our space, some student say the we need more bag hooks so that the students bags can fit on one side of each bag hooks.

We met with Mrs Tele’a to confirm our project and we also shared with her the materials needed and the quantity needed to make this possible. We talked about how many hooks could fit on one pole and how many rows we wanted. Soon we decided to have eight on each pole for now and we also wanted a lock plan for the lockers as many are locked with lost combinations. We also talked about what we needed for our project and what the amount of bag hooks, screws and and hammers we need in this project.

For every Friday our team, team 5 split up into our inquiry groups (swimming groups). Room 3's Inquiry group is just our home class, today we had to continue working on our projects from last week which is making things that would make our school more successful. We had to list all the materials we need and let Mrs Tele'a know so that she would provide them for us.

Making fruit salad at cooking/Tech

Today is Thursday the 8th of June witch is the year 7's tech day. Today at tech we went to cooking and made fruit salad with chocolate chips, yogurt, passion fruit, whipped cream, chocolate syrup and sprinkles. The first thing we had to do was cut up the fruit that was given to us in a bowl from our cooking teacher Miss Heka. when we finish cutting the fruits up we had to mix the yogurt and the passion fruit syrup together and make it smooth and nice, soon after that we had to poor the mixture of the yogurt and passion fruit into our cup then add our fruits in as well. when our cups were near the top we put chocolate syrup on the inside of the cups and added whipped cream with sprinkles on the top.

Intro to statistical Investigation Wk 5

WALT: I will collect, sort and count data and apply basic addition facts and knowledge of place value and symmetry to: - combine or partition whole numbers.

In this investigation we found out that the most app that is used on peoples phones were youtube and musically
P - Problem, first we had to figure out what the problem was.
P - Plan, then we had to plan our idea.
D - Data, and then we had to collect all the information
A - Analysis, then put it all together and make it into a graph
C - conclusion, and then find out what we learnt from this investigation and peoples answers to our questions.

I can do better in my IKAN test

Today my group Tapawha got to see our results on our  test. The thing that was different about our Ikan test was that we could go over our test twice if we needed extra time to do the answers again for the questions.   Another difference was that we used our own Chromebooks with our own headphones.  After the first test we got to sit the test again because some of the people in Tapawha had missed out some and thought that it would be good if we done our Ikan test again.

When we started the test I felt nervous and kind of relaxed at the same time, I also felt pressure coming in. When I was half way through the test I started feel pretty positive about my self and I thought I did alright on the first test and did better listening to it a  second time.

The next day ( which is today ) we marked our test. The different thing about marking our test was that we got to circle the ones that we got wrong but was a silly mistake because you knew the answer.   I was thinking of another question and forgot to answer the previous question then I ended up  missing it out.
Before our  teacher didn't let us do this but now she has told us that we could mark it circling the silly mistake we made.  This means I could also count this as question correct!
After looking at my own results - my data, I still need to improve in place value. My grades on the test this time are better than the last time we did our test.   I still find  place value on the tests a little hard.  I will work on this!
